The countdown to the Midwest Adventure Expo has begun, and Charlie from Outskirts Overland is buzzing with anticipation. With just one week until the big event, overlanders across the country are packing their rigs and plotting their journeys. For Charlie, next week looks particularly hectic – retrieving his truck from Gray Industries Cruisers with fresh gear sets and ARB lockers on Wednesday, attending a Blues playoff game Thursday, before hitting the expo on Friday.

Throughout this episode, Charlie reflects on a curious aspect of the overlanding community: how we often recognize each other's vehicles before we recognize each other's faces. This realization has spurred his encouragement for everyone to join "United by Overland" and post photos of themselves alongside their rigs. This simple act helps transform online connections into real-world friendships, especially valuable as event season kicks into high gear.

For those planning to attend the Midwest Adventure Expo, don't miss the daily live Q&A sessions and after-parties at the Midwest Adventure Outfitters booth at 5 pm on Friday and Saturday. These gatherings promise giveaways, beverages, and the chance to connect with fellow adventurers in person. Charlie also shares a surprising statistic – only 10% of all podcasts survive beyond their first year – and offers practical summer overlanding advice about maintaining air filters as dust season approaches. Whether you're a seasoned overlander or just starting your journey, this episode bridges the gap between vehicles and the people who drive them. Join the community, share your stories, and let's put faces to the rigs we've come to know!

Welcome to the World of Warcraft, episode 1 Warcraft 1 Warcraft, 2 Warcraft, 3 Warcraft, 4 Warcraft, 5 Warcraft, 6 Warcraft, 7 Warcraft, 8 Warcraft, 9 Warcraft, 10 Warcraft, 11 Warcraft, 12 Warcraft, 13 Warcraft, 14 Warcraft, 15 Warcraft, 16 Warcraft, 17 Warcraft, 18 Warcraft, 19 Warcraft, 20 Warcraft, 21 Warcraft, 22 Warcraft. Hey guys, it's Charlie with Outskirts Overland. It's Friday the 18th. Today is Good Friday and it's Pet Owner's Independence Day. I don't even know what that means no idea what that means but it's also Good Friday and that's probably most commonly what today is known as. So there's that Pet Owners Independence Day. Weird one, super weird one. But yeah, it's Friday, so it's almost coming up more next week, a week from today, more starts, and for some people it's going. So it's almost coming up more next week, a week from today, more starts, and for some people it's going to be four or five days from today. They'll go down early and get all their stuff set up for brands and whatnot, so there'll be a lot of movement. Maybe some of you guys that are in the Midwest will see that stuff on the highway over the next few days as people make their way that way stuff on the highway over the next few days as people make their way, make their way that way.

Speaker 1:

So yesterday, um, the blues playoff schedule got announced. So that's freaking sick and I'll be going to the blues game on thursday. I did get tickets to a playoff game and the way that works is you kind of you get, you buy the tickets and then you kind of got to see A, do they make it? And then B, when is the game. So you really only buy, you can buy tickets like the first or the second home game, and then you're kind of at the mercy of when those get scheduled, because playoffs aren't like a regular scheduled thing. So I'll be going to that Thursday. So, yeah, wednesday going to pick up my truck from gray industries cruisers and over the park that's who's working on my truck. They did. Jess mooney is the guy that owns that shop and he's working on my truck. Uh, so I'm going to pick that up wednesday. Thursday going to the game. Friday going to the expo. That's a busy, busy, busy, busy, busy week next week. My truck if you guys follow me on social media, my gear sets are out of the truck. The thirds are out. So the new gears will be getting put in today with the ARB lockers, and then you know there's a whole bunch of wiring and arrows, blah, blah, blah. That's got to get hooked up from there, but it's progressing, so that's good. I'm happy about that.

Speaker 1:

Nothing that came out looked too bad, which was surprising to me, but that's all good stuff. I do want to reiterate again in the group united by overland, go ahead over there. You'll see the trend kind of happening. Go there, post kind of introduce yourself, post pictures of your you like personally you. So people know who you are, so they're not always who's that guy. Oh, I know such and such is here because that's their rig.

Speaker 1:

Who are people? Not just names with vehicles, faces with names with vehicles would be awesome. We all are looking for that. It's something that I am trying to make a push for, so that we can all kind of actually get to know each other. So if we were to run up on each other anywhere Expo, you know trail, wherever we know who each other are, I mean at least kind of. I mean, yeah, it's kind of crazy. I mean, yeah, it's kind of crazy and didn't really didn't really what's the whatever it didn't. I didn't really notice or think about how kind of weird that is, that we all know each other's cars and not what each other looks like. Or we know each other's names and not faces, and it's just a little. It's just a little odd, and some of us talk on a regular basis even Go ahead, go over there and go on over there and go on over there and put your face up, see what's going on with that.

Speaker 1:

Other than that, not a whole lot going on. More expos coming. All my stuff is going to be the final, the final, my final order of things, for that for outskirts overland will be in today. So that's good. Again, I didn't. I didn't do nearly as much as some of these brands and influencers are doing. I don't know. I mean, I guess maybe they're taking quite a bit more seriously as like a job, I guess. So it's a lot of stuff though. So, but yeah, it's Friday, more's next week I will be, obviously I'll be at more, but more importantly I'm going to keep saying it every time I know you guys don't all listen to every single one of these we are going to be doing a live Q&A and after party at the Midwest Adventure Outfitters booth at 5 pm on Friday and I believe Saturday too, and we're going to have some.

Speaker 1:

I think we're going to well, I don't know yet, I don't know all the, every single detail but come on over, have a beverage, hang out with us. There'll be some giveaways as well, and I mean, just come hang out. It'd be a good time to ask some questions, kind of like a meet and greet after party. Slash social, you know, slash potential podcast, slash stream A lot going on there, but it'll be me and Benji and whoever else decides to come hang out with us After that, the, the BM, and I think so if you got a VIP ticket, you rock the VIP party. So other than that, though, guys, I don't have I mean, I don't have a lot going on.

Speaker 1:

I've been, I've been watching content, but it's on. I've been watching content, but it's slow. I think it's because it's Expo season, potentially, or because it's the beginning of the season, I don't know. I don't know. It kind of goes back to what I said with like trends in the space. It just doesn't seem even the people that are putting out regular stuff and people that are, and influencers Even influencers that are putting out regular stuff, and people that are, and influencers even influencers that are putting out regular stuff and businesses that are putting out regular stuff. There's not as many of them. You know you could go back and search some of the creators you were watching two, three years ago and see they haven't put out a video for a year right now. So it's a it's definitely potentially a changeover of times.

Speaker 1:

I am hoping, I'm hoping it's it's. It is a changeover and it's not just gonna be slower and that we're just kind of waiting on. And we're just kind of waiting on you know what. What's going on with the changeover. You know what's going on with the changeover, you know when the new faces and new people emerge, kind of thing. I guess I can get into that a little bit.

Speaker 1:

Yesterday I was on looking at, like I think anybody that podcasts looks at their stats so or streams nonetheless, I pay way more attention to the podcast side of this than the stream side of it. I just do the stream because I personally have a couple friends that like to only listen to stuff like this on YouTube, so I just do the stream too. It's just kill two birds with one stone. But I was looking at my podcast stats yesterday and something crazy like only 10% of all podcasts, only 10% of all podcasts make it past the year. Like ever. Like that in podcasting has been out a long time. So like only 10% of podcasts make it past a year. That's kind of crazy. I mean I'm I'm just past a year old, but I also would have never thought that was like some. I don't know, I don't know.

Speaker 1:

Guys, I'll tell you right now it takes some work, but by no means to put out a podcast like mine. Anyways, mine is not like I mean, mean you guys know this, it's not polished, it's not I don't edit it. I mean I try to have decent audio to where you guys can just understand what I'm saying. Like nothing, I have nothing really crazy going on. I spend some decent money on my host so that it goes out to all platforms and stuff, but nothing crazy. Podcasting is not that hard and especially now for me, like now that I do it in the car on my way to work. I live about 30 minutes from work. My podcasts are about 15 to 20, 30 minutes. Not that big of a deal. Like it's just not that big of a deal. Like it's just not that big of a deal.

Speaker 1:

I don't know if you really wanted to, if you really wanted to do it. The harder thing is just having stuff to talk about. I I've been talking for my career forever and teaching forever. I've been instructor in many places. So, like this, comes naturally to me to do this type of content, as I've been doing it for many, many, many years across different, across different excuse me industries. So this is not a big deal to me.

Speaker 1:

But yeah, if you guys wanted to start a podcast, I thought that was a insane, just an insane statistic. Like 10% don't make it past a year. You could I mean you could easily put a podcast out once every other week or once a month, with free software and stuff. So I don't know, yeah, I don't know, it's definitely doable. Don't think that this is some type of freaking. Don't think this is some type of freaking? I don't know. Extremely arduous task. I would just say that there's some of you guys out there that have something that people would listen to, especially I was just talking about content creators, like in the Overland space. Like my podcast is decently ranked. But let's be real here there's like five total I mean there's a bunch of you search, but five total that are consistently putting anything up with any type of regularity and I don't even know if it's five.

Speaker 1:

So, like you guys, if you were interested in talking about this topic or talking about your trips or your travel, or I mean nobody's talking about oh, excuse me, nobody's talking about, you know, on YouTube it's really popular to do build videos. Nobody's breaking down their builds over podcast, if you're, if you no, businesses are podcasting, like new products coming out or anything. I mean, I'm not trying to be a consultant to anybody, but I would listen to that myself and I try to know the most I can. But again, I don't own a business, I don't work for a brand, I don't have any sponsors. I don't freaking know what's going on. I only know what's going on in the space, trying to educate you guys on topics you want to know about, and so on and so forth. Yeah, that's what's going on right now. It's getting warm, I know that. So, you guys, that makes me excited because we're about to be able to get near the water and do a little bit of the dipping in the water, which is my favorite time of the year for camping is anytime I can get near the water and the water is decent enough to get into. I like that A lot of times. With that comes dust, which I guess I'll touch on that just very briefly.

Speaker 1:

Change your freaking air filter and your cabin air filter in your car. Like, learn how to do that, learn where that's at. They're gonna be so worth it for you. You'll probably change them a couple of times in the summer once you realize how completely full of crap they are. If you guys are off-roading Again, if you want that to not be so bad, a snorkel helps a lot. But even with I have a snorkel, even with that, it's it. I mean, it still does get jammed, it still does get full of crap. So change your freaking stuff. That's like such an easy thing to do, like just. And if you plan on changing it a lot, you don't even need to buy like super nice filters and stuff. Get the freaking micro guarded O'Reilly's or super dig, a Walmart or whatever. Buy a gang of them.

Speaker 1:

Because I hate whenever and this is me but if you get in your car and it smells like dust still when you turn on the air conditioning, your cabin air filter is full of crap, guys, and that happens to me a lot I'll get in my truck and I'll be like, oh, dust, you know it has a smell, guys. You know dust has a smell and then some of that's even circulating in your car and your car is going to be all dusty on the inside. If you wonder why that is, that's why that is so make sure you pay attention to that. I think of that immediately. When I think summer. I think wet and dry. You know, wet I can get in. Wet, I can get in the water because the rivers and lakes will be warm enough, but dusty because every other thing is dry as hell. So, but I got nothing really this week or nothing this week. I got nothing really this week or nothing this week. I got nothing today.

Speaker 1:
