Why I'm thrilled about an event that combines wheeling, lazy rivers, and splash pads
Ever wondered what would happen if someone combined a serious overland event with a family resort vacation? That's exactly what we're exploring today as I share my excitement about Overland of America – a revolutionary approach to overlanding events that considers the whole family, not just the driver.
Unlike traditional overland gatherings that often mean dust, heat, and limited amenities, this event offers something unique: technical trails and gear shopping alongside pools, splash pads, and lazy rivers. It's what I'm calling "country club overlanding" – and while that might sound contradictory to the rugged spirit of adventure travel, it actually opens the door for more people to experience our community. Imagine wheeling all morning, then cooling off with a cold drink while floating down a lazy river in the afternoon. This is the first event I've seen that genuinely considers partners, spouses, and kids who might not share the same enthusiasm for recovery gear and roof top tents.

Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls, welcome to Outskirts Overland. It is Friday the 30th. It is Water your Plant Day Again. This is another day where I feel like they just done ran out of days and they were like they got a. It's like Powerball where they just got a ball full of days that they just put me anywhere. Why would today be water your plant there when it's freaking spring, it's raining, guys. I guess I think I have figured out some of my audio woes. There's limitations on my streaming software based on the browser I use. So that's a thing. Playing with it again today, a different way, seeing if it's for good, bad or indifferent. There's all kinds of stuff going on there. There's the Lazy River, there's pool, there's Splash Pad Restaurants. There. That's gonna make it a little bit better than just your normal overland event, which does punt it a little outside of my. There's vendors. There's gonna be vendors, there's sponsors for stuff. There's gonna be a movie premiere from some big creator, youtube creators, a whole freaking lot of people watch him and these gladiator do stuff. He's gonna have a video never before seen that's gonna be premiering. So hopefully that's gonna be awesome and even just meet him and see in his jeep or his, his jeep. He also has a power wagon. That's like to be awesome and even just to be man and seeing his Jeep or his, his Jeep. He also has a power wagon that's like fully built out, but I think it's a good event.
Speaker 1:Like again, it's summer and a lot of overlaying events are in the summer, but it's typically dry and hot, so you're dealing with dust and and not much way to cool off. You know it is Cuban, so TX and everything else. Showers are a problem, but this seems like something that might actually just be like. This would be the first true overland event I will have been to. It seems more like it's Overland of America. Overlanding can be, et cetera. There's wheeling, but there's it seems like the first.
Speaker 1:I don't think Overland event is the right word. I don't know that Overland festival is the right word, but it's the first family oriented one that I have ever seen. There's a lot going on to where you can go to your classes and go shop for gear and go wheeling, while your husband or wife or kids, or whoever the other person is involved, can go be at the splash pad or get in a tan in a pool or floating down the lazy river having a drink, or maybe that's what you do one day and then the other day you wheel. It's just the first time that I myself have seen the family be considered in an event and it seems like it's going to be super cool because of me. I am thrilled to be a creator there, for sure, but also I'm just thrilled that I could go. Like I am thrilled to be a creator there, for sure, but also I'm just thrilled that I could go.
Speaker 1:Like me even me, I'm like I go camping so much to go to some type of hybrid thing like this. Like I will be in there. I will be sunburned at this event. They need a sunscreen sponsor. His whole idea is he's going to have a booth for the store that it's like a hangout spot. I will be over there a bunch because I'll be. It's just going to be good.
Speaker 1:I'm very much looking forward to it because I think it's just going to be it seems like a leveled up version of everything like of multiple different things throughout my life I've done Next to the Overland, so I think it's super cool. So I went for six minutes about this event. But I just want to get it out there to you guys. It's not because I'm a creator that I'm like oh, it's going to be so awesome, that's cool. But really being a creator just saves you guys 10%. Like I get to be in a special place at camp, but that's cool. I'm happy I'm being recognized. But like he gets 10% off, just use outskirts 10. I just see some of you guys get out there Cause I think it's going to be fun.
Speaker 1:Like wheeling is fun, but it can be stressful. There's a lot of reasons why this event is just going to be just fun. Like it's just going to be fun, so it'll be a good time. It's on private property, so all the wheeling you don't have to worry about the other folks that aren't at the event, which does create some community. I've never been in a scenario where I can go wheel whenever, be done wheeling, get out, go float in a lazy river or pool and have a drink. That just seems. That's like golf course overlanding to me. I live on the golf course, I live at the country club overlanding and, although that would not be my jam typically, I am thrilled to see how it all works out. It's their second year, but I am thrilled to see how it all goes.
Speaker 1:Seems real fun to me. So if he doesn't buy in from me, like you're going to get it from him, I think he's going to be sick. So we'll move on from there. That's totally cool and whatnot. But it's Friday. I have road construction everywhere, fucking. Yeah, it's like it's friday. I've been doing what I'm doing yesterday, free of fell asleep while I have a car. We'll go to stannard ferry wild. I never do, but so, yeah, that's whatever.
Speaker 1:Yeah, I did one thing that I did do, and I try not to talk too much about what I'm looking at, cause I just don't want to put out the thing that I did do. And I try not to talk too much about what I'm looking at because I just don't want to put out the urgency for you guys to be like I don't need that, but I freaking have been looking for factor 55 ultra hook for my winch. For not looking. Guys, let's be real. Here it can be found. Okay, go to factor 55 and buy it, the freaking ultra hook. I don't want to misspeak here, but the thing's $283.
Speaker 1:Okay, for the Winchley, the Winch Hook, and it's got a closed circle at one end and it's a big hook on the other. All aluminum, like super awesome product, like such an awesome product. And I want something with a hook myself. I do a lot of like quick stuff and I do it just would be nice to like not have to undo the shackle like every freaking time and not, it just is a little bit of, it's just a little more work and I use the damn thing a lot. So I wanted an ultra hook. Hindsight's always 20-20 and I should have got one of those to begin with, but I didn't. I just what I should have got to begin on Facebook marketplace like finally I found one, and it's red too, so that works out. I would have gotten freaking any color purple, like whatever because I just needed them ultra. I probably just repainted it black to be honest with you, if it was color I didn't like, but it's red and that's what I wanted Got that thing for less than half the price.
Speaker 1:I'm in Columbia, missouri. I'm about two an hour and a half two hours somewhere in there from Kansas City. The guy's in Kansas City and I just offered him 10 more bucks for it and said, hey, will you just ship a a flat rate, because it's definitely not too big to ship flat rate. So I was like, hey, will you just ship this bad boy flat rate? That'd be sick. So he's doing that.
Speaker 1:Man, I could not be more ecstatic because, dude I was talking about yesterday, you get into stuff like a hundred bucks is not cheap, but it's a digestible amount of money. Like I can swallow 100. The reason I don't have one of these things yet is because I'm like dude, $300 for this thing. Like I have a thing that works. It's annoying but it works. So I'm like man. But I found one on Facebook Marketplace no lead. You can find Factor 50 hooks, leads, whatever you want to call them, on Facebook Marketplace all the time, but they're not Ultra hooks, it's a specific one that I wanted. So I am freaking thrilled, so, yeah, so freaking psyched, that I got that thing. So that's tell me, maybe you can help me about that. That will elevate my life pretty considerably, relatively immediately. That will be just a nice freaking deal.
Speaker 1:I can leave my soft shackle up. I can leave my soft shackle up. I can leave one soft shackle on the tree saver. I don't have to take the soft shackle apart anymore to run it through the loop. Ah, this is going to be so nice. Yeah, it'll be nice. It's going to be so much nicer Because, you guys, I'm not winching in ideal conditions.
Speaker 1:Very often I'm full of mud and it and I can suck. I'm having a lot of fun, like I'm having a ton of fun, but you're always like one slip and fall or one. Like you're always like just one slight mishap away from like rage, and I hope you I hope that resonates with you guys I'm always having a good time until I'm not so old will help me stay in the good time. Speaker 1:Yesterday, guys, I totally gypped you guys on a couple days of podcasts, literally not on purpose. I was trying to coordinate a guest that was going to take some. I was preparing you prepare for a test or anything. I was preparing for guests that ended up falling through. So I was like, oh man, I totally A, what you guys maybe were looking forward to, maybe not, didn't happen. And I didn't do two podcasts. So I was like what? Yesterday man, my podcast, probably I think my podcast had a record day yesterday as far as listens in a single day. So, thanks guys, I appreciate it. That made me feel better. I don't know that it made me feel better at all. And then you go, you guys were like what the heck, charlie? Like where is this thing at? But anyways, thanks guys, I appreciate it. You didn't lose faith in me in two days. So I appreciate you, but I got nothing else.
Speaker 1:I'm going camping next weekend. It's been raining all week here. Finally didn't rain or not is didn't, isn't raining currently here where I live, and that's exciting. I mowed already and everything. I discussed that earlier. So that's good, that's all done, that's work. Good, they're done, good, awesome duh like complete. I am just looking forward to the weekend.
Speaker 1:Now that it's not raining, I'm ready to be home with our kids, like when it's raining, that's like boring, boring they can learn rain stuff but like outside. I live in the country and I have a yard, not like an in-town yard, like I got a big ridge, and that's nice because the kids can just. It's nice to see imagination exists not an overlanding topic but it is nice to see my kids using their imagination because now, with google and everything else, your kids can just get every answer. Everything is at their fingertips. They don't really have to imagine much. So I very much value summer where the kids can go outside and use their imagination and enjoy that, and it makes my heart happy to see them being kids instead of, you know, tech zombies, I guess, is one way to put it. And not that stuff's great and those advancements are awesome, but like they also need to be more than just spelling something in a search engine bar. So I'm excited that the weather seems to be seemingly going up the port for that.
Speaker 1:I'm very excited about that for the week. It's sun's out, it looks nice, it's all good things, but I don't think anything's coming. None of the sci-fi order is going to be here this weekend, so I can't get it on and show it to you guys. It just won't even be in the unboxing show. It give you guys some like idea on it by monday. So I got free guys today.
Speaker 1:Get up, all right, enjoy being outside, get out. Gonna be at least in the midwest here appears, did rain all week, so you're gonna be muddy. So you know, whatever it is that you wash your vehicle with, take your quarters with you so you can at least knock some of it off before you drive too far, because it's going to be muddy. Enjoy it. Getting that water all that rain is going to have that water chilly, which will be awesome to cool off, because I think it's going to be. It's about to start getting warm here at least, and that'll be refreshing, to say the least. So that's all great stuff and awesome.
Speaker 1:So go ahead and get outside, enjoy it. Get some sun, get some fresh air, Mow the grass, whatever it is that you do. Get outside this weekend. Go camping, obviously, go camping.
