Back Behind the Mic

After a brief hiatus from behind the microphone, I'm finally back with updates on where I've been and what's ahead. Life got busy juggling college kids, camping trips, the truck build, work, and everything in between – sometimes we all just need a minute to breathe. While daily episodes might not return, this marks the beginning of a more sustainable podcasting rhythm moving forward.

The break wasn't idle time. I've been up late nights finalizing my Redarc dual battery system in the truck, learning new interview software, and preparing for upcoming events. The truck now boasts a complete power setup with strategic redundancies like 40-amp breakers instead of fuses – lessons learned from years of vehicle builds. These seemingly small details make all the difference between a successful adventure and being stranded with a blown fuse miles from nowhere.

The big news? You'll find me at Overland of America in the creator corral alongside some familiar faces from the community. Use code OUTSKIRTS10 to save 10% on weekend passes and primitive camping (though not on RV or cabin options). This event strikes the perfect balance for families with amenities like pools and restaurants while offering genuine off-road experiences on private trails. Look for friends from Backwards Adventure Junkies, Midwest Adventure Outfitters, Baker Overland, and more. Whether you're a seasoned overlander or just curious about the lifestyle, this gathering focuses on people and experiences rather than commercial displays. Come say hello – I'd love to hit some trails together and talk about your setup!

Ready to reconnect with the community? Join me at Overland of America, follow along as Fourth of July content drops (my favorite holiday as a Marine Corps veteran), or simply get outside this weekend – shoes off, grass between your toes. The podcast might have paused, but the adventures never stopped.

Speaker 1:

Hey guys, good morning. I guess I'm on the way to work. Truck's pretty loud. I don't even have my mic, so I'll be.

Speaker 1:

I put out my podcast yesterday at Nick Wax. I appreciate you guys all for listening to that. That was a nice change of pace to interview somebody and learn a few things. I have received numerous messages. I'll go ahead and say I'm done, taking a break from the podcast. I took me.

Speaker 1:

I just like I said guys before, lots going on college kids camping, truck podcasts, like there's a lot going on work. Um, some things happened. It just needed a. I just needed a minute, that's all. I don't know that I'll come back on the daily though, that's for sure, but I figured I'd at least get on here, because everybody's like man, I really not everybody. I say everybody, that's a gross overstatement. But many people were like I wish you'd get back to doing it. I really enjoyed it. I'm easing back into it a little bit here. I'm trying to have some people on.

Speaker 1:

Next week I got all new software, you know, again for for dual people, for two people, so like doing interviews and doing lives, if I so choose to do that again. I uh have all new software, so I've been learning that too, you know, for a couple few weeks now. That's nothing new or revolutionary at this point that I have new software. I just finally got last night I was up until 1 am finally just got my Redarc system finished, well, functionally finished, in the truck. I've got a couple more bus bars showing up today so it can be cleaner. It's very, it's very, I'll say, overpopulated. I have some overpopulated terminals and posts under the truck as we speak and uh, so I got some bus bars come in and different things. But the truck now has dual batteries so I'm away from power stations, so that's freaking awesome. And uh, yeah, got a bunch fail safe stuff I know how to replace pretty easy. So nothing on the power station is more than a couple hundred bucks. Well, the BCDC charger from Redarc was, I think, I mean, I think like 400, 500 bucks, so that's the most expensive thing in there. Battery is 120 something. And then I got some fuse breakers you know 40 amp fuse breakers instead of, you know, fusible legs or fuse as a general. So I got breakers so that way I don't have to get another one. I could reset it. Highly worth it to me. That's something I'd learned from other wirings of vehicles. But that's all done.

Speaker 1:

I plan, you know, fourth of july is coming and I plan to definitely be out and about or a bit during that, during that weekend. So there's, yeah, that's for sure. Um, so, yeah, nothing too, nothing too crazy going on, just just get getting through, getting by. Just wanted to let you guys know. Um, I'm still, you know it's not over yet. I'm still trying to get Robbie from Overland of America on. But for those of you that don't know, uh, I will be at Overland of America, I will be there as a podcast. I am going to be in the creator content creator corral. There is some other very big YouTube names that will be in the creator corral as well as some, you know, as well as some I don't know.

Speaker 1:

I don't want to call myself a smaller name by any means, or the podcast a smaller name, but I would say, in comparison some smaller names to some of the bigger names you know I don't share my stats or anything with the podcast by no means is small. The podcast don't get the the podcast guy don't get the credit that I feel like they sometimes they should, as this is what you guys listen to on your boots during lunch breaks while you're working, who knows what. So I mean you know hashtag, you know justice for podcasts, but anyways, it's just been busy I am. The podcast is not, is not done, it just I needed a freaking break. I'm sure you guys Heck, I wish you. I bet you guys wish you could do that work like I need a break. I wish I could just take a two week break from work, or a month break from work, or six month break. You know who knows what you might really need.

Speaker 1:

But the podcast is a, is a, is a fun. You know nothing. Nothing for me it's it's. You know, like you guys know, there's no commercials, there's no sponsors, there's no affiliates. Here I mean you can use outskirts 10 to save money on your tickets for overland of america.

Speaker 1:

Actually, I need a caveat. That doesn't work for abins and rv. I had a very, very, uh sweet individual that said, hey, your discount code's not working yesterday and I was like let me, don't, don't check out yet, like let me see about that, and so I kind of went through it with them, you know, on DMing them, and it turns out they were doing RV camping and my discount code does not does not work for RV. Now, your weekend, if you do RV camping, it still will save you 10% on your weekend passes, just not the RV or cabin camping, but it will still save you the money on the passes to the event and all your primitive camping. Whether you're the up, close or out in the field, primitive camping, it will save you the money there still too. So when it comes to you know, I think the events over $100, let's say $4 and $10 if you camp, $10 is let's start getting white monster energy drinks, math, that's three, or if on sale, poor white monsters. So that is not an amount of money to be slept on.

Speaker 1:

Four monsters is is. You know that could change your life. Four monsters might change your life. You use my code and save that 10% and don't spend it on white monsters. I would have to say that you are living a lesser you know lesser life. You're not optimized. You're not optimizing your life. If you've got a free 10 bucks, four monsters is where I'd spend it. But that's me and I'm not a doctor, so you probably shouldn't listen to me, but I tell you what I know a lot about, though you can't get a doctor again, that's feeling good. The white monster will do that for you. So any of you guys that follow me on social media, on outskirts, overland, or on my personal social media, will see every single day my daily affirmations for white monster thanks and creed both. So I, uh, I fall into that dad rock, you know. Garage beers white monster category. So sorry, sorry, not sorry. Raj Beers White Monster category. So sorry, sorry, not sorry. So, anyways, guys, the podcast will continue. This is just not a, this is just a, you know, throw-it-out-there Friday thing for you guys. Podcast's still here.

Speaker 1:

I do plan to probably, I would say, something will be out for 4th of July. As an extremely patriotic individual, something will be out for the 4th of July, probably, maybe, who knows if it's Overland related at all, but I am extremely patriotic. Like I've told you guys, I'm a disabled veteran, marine Corps veteran. I mean, I could go on and on about that, but I don't and there's no need to. But I am a huge patriot of this country. So 4th of July is probably my favorite holiday always. So I will be shooting off some fireworks and enjoying the day off and, you know, probably getting you guys some content about how awesome our nation is and, uh, you know, in all the other nations, I guess I should. Guys the freaking I hate to say the term blessed, but I'm lucky.

Speaker 1:

Okay, some of you guys are listening right now. You're not even in the United States. A lot of you guys listening right now are not even in the United States, but that's fine. I would totally respect if you were extremely patriotic to your country, regardless of what it is. I mean, I have listeners in the UK, australia, sweden, france, canada. You know I I respect anybody that's patriotic to to their nation, and that's that to me is is, you know, amazing, like you should. Everybody should be proud of where they live. You know whether or not we all have our differences and there's, you know, specifics to it. I respect anybody that's a, that's a Patriot to their nation. You know and feel like we all should be heck. If you live here, it's a. It will be a good thing, you know, to like what you live, at least appreciate it. Um, so I guess I'll leave it there, guys. I appreciate you guys using my code for overland of America.

Speaker 1:

I think going to overland of America is worth the time. It's going to be fun. If you guys have families, it's going to be a little more mild. You could do wheeling if you want, but there's, you know it's not going to, everything's not muddy, there's concrete, there's pools, there's lazy river, there's a restaurant, there's gonna be a little movie premiere so you can watch that. I'm, you know. There's gonna be places where you could find comfort if you're not quite quite over, quite equipped to be as comfortable as possible. It isn't in the middle of september, so it's toss, toss-up. Is it really windy, is it rainy, is it super hot? We don't know. But there will be the amenities there in which for you to be comfortable with your family. So if you were going to take your family to any one event, or any event really, I would recommend that.

Speaker 1:

One Rendezvous in the Ozarks is great for those of us that like to wheel in the Ozarks and share stories about our travels over the years and things like that. But it is. I might be wrong this year, but I couldn't tell you guys because I haven't seen it, but it is far less. It has far less attractions than Overland of America and by no means are either of those events expos. So they are just events for the people. So essentially, the focus of those events is. You is the person that's intent. So it'd be cool if you guys came out. I know the guys at Backwards Adventure Junkies will for sure be there. Those are great guys. I'd recommend any of you guys that live kind of near the Midwest Oklahoma area to check them out. It's a very community-minded group.

Speaker 1:

I don't think very many if any of my friends from Toyota Trucks of Arkansas will be there. I know Midwest Adventure Outfitters will be there and Benji and I'll be hanging out there quite a bit too. It's just going to be a good event, community event. I know there's quite a few people going um to it and aren't going to rendezvous this year. So if you're trying to catch everybody again, I'll be at rendezvous, not as a podcast, not as anybody, as charlie probably. You know behind the scenes, not even in in plain sight. So I'll be at rendezvous like that, but I'll be a. You know I will be at overland of america, like I said benji'll be. You know I will be at Overland of America. Like I said, benji will be there. Backwards Adventure Junkies will be there, that whole crew of guys I know. Baker Overland will be there. Independence Overland will be there. Tyler with Independence Overland who is building out a brand new trail hunter. I know the story till now Sean with his. I don't know if they'll bring his gladiator or his Dodge truck with the four-wheel camper, but he'll be there, I'll be there.

Speaker 1:

You know it's going to be a good event. It's going to be a good event. It'd be a good place for you guys to to meet some people, hang out, do some wheeling. If you want, there's it's. It's essentially on a private off-road park. There's all kinds of wheeling to be done.

Speaker 1:

If you guys ever had aspirations to do that with me, I will be there and I will be doing that for sure. So we could do that, and that'd be cool too. I'd love to do that, cause I'll never have something like a, like a Patreon thing. So anyways, guys, I'll leave it at that Didn't mean to sell you too hard on overland of America. I just think it's going to be a lot of fun, and I would. You know, overland of America is like a kid with a trampoline. He's like come over to my house, I got a trampoline. Let's do that, you know. So that's where I'm at, like it's just going to be a fun thing. I hope that you all can make it and see you there. I will catch you guys next week. Have a good friday, have a good weekend and, you know, just try and get outside, guys. Rains, raining, hot, whatever. Get outside, it's good for you. Take your shoes off, walk in the grass, good for you. All right, guys, keep it real. I'll talk to you later.
